About
Praised for his colorful sound and intimate approach, guitarist Daniel Conant is an avid performer and teacher of classical music. Originally from New York City, Conant began studying Hindustani classical music at the age of 11, and during his teenage years he performed on the sitar in venues across the United States and India. Since switching his focus to classical guitar at age 18, Daniel has enthralled audiences with his unique interpretations of repertoire belonging to five centuries.
In New York, Conant’s playing has been heard at venues such as Weil Hall, Symphony Space, and the Morgan Library & Museum. He has performed internationally in Italy, Belgium, Mexico, and Canada, where he was a prizewinner at the Hamilton International Guitar Competition. Devoted to new music, he has premiered works by composers Alba Potes, William Anderson, and Jonathan Dawe, among others. Daniel is also an active chamber musician, and in 2022 he formed a trio with flutist Nina Sivošová and violist Ema Tufekčić.
Daniel holds a Bachelor of Arts from Sarah Lawrence College where he studied with guitarist-composer William Anderson. He earned a Master of Music with honors from the Eastman School of Music where he worked closely with guitarist Nicholas Goluses and lutenist Paul O’Dette. In 2020, he was awarded a grant from the Belgian-American Educational Foundation to study with Raphaëlla Smits at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven, Belgium. He continued his studies there with João Carlos Victor.
Recently Daniel has performed as a part of the Village Trip Festival in NYC, the Bijloke Wonderland Festival in Ghent, Belgium, and at the Klara Festival in Brussels. Daniel's first album, a recital of chamber music for flute, viola, and guitar, will be available in both audio and video formats on October 23rd, 2023.
